Monday, April 14, 2025 - Peter Navarro, a top trade adviser to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has responded to being called a moron by his colleague in the US government, Elon Musk.
Novarro, had in an interview on the US’s latest automobile
tariff, said Elon Musk’s company, Tesla, uses foreign-made parts to make their
products.
However, Musk said Novarro’s claims on Tesla electric
vehicles were false, claiming he is “dumber than a sack of bricks.”
However, in his reaction, the presidential aide said he and
Musk are “great,” adding that he has been called worse.
Navarro spoke to NBC on Sunday and he reacted to the insults
Musk directed at him days earlier.
He also hailed Musk for his role in the Department of
Government Efficiency, DOGE.
Navarro said, “I’ve been called worse. Everything’s fine
with Elon.”
Navarro has played a central role in the 10% tariffs imposed
on countries globally by the Trump administration.
And social media posts from Musk on Monday targeted Navarro,
saying he “truly is a moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks”.
Musk had also previously said Navarro “ain’t built shit”.
Navarro, for his part, had called the chief of the
electrical vehicle manufacturer Tesla a “car assembler” rather than a maker.
Navarro added, “Elon and I are great. It’s not an issue.”
He further narrated how he served four months in prison
beginning in March 2024 because he refused to comply with a subpoena from
members of Congress who were investigating the 6 January 2021 attack on the US
Capitol.
“Nobody should have to come into this government and have
that happen or have to go to jail like I did,” said Navarro.
Navarro had also dismissed Musk’s insults in an interview on
CNN’s The Arena with Kasie Hunt.
“It’s no problem,” Navarro told CNN, adding: “It’s like –
it’s no problem.”
