Sunday, August 16, 2026 -Judith Barsi was only 10 when her promising Hollywood career was brutally cut short in one of the industry’s most devastating tragedies.
Known to millions as the voice of Ducky in The Land Before Time and Anne-Marie in All Dogs Go to Heaven, Barsi had already built an impressive acting career through television, commercials and films. Behind the young star’s growing success, however, was a deeply troubled home life marked by her father József Barsi’s alleged alcoholism, threats and violent behavior.
On July 27, 1988, the situation ended in horror. József shot his wife, Maria, and their daughter Judith inside the family’s West Hills, California, home before setting the house on fire. He then killed himself in the garage.
The tragedy came after repeated warning signs, including reports of abuse and threats that had been brought to the attention of authorities. Friends also recalled Judith expressing fear about returning home, making the eventual violence even more heartbreaking.
Judith’s career continued to grow even after her death, with All Dogs Go to Heaven released posthumously and her performance as Anne-Marie becoming part of her enduring legacy.
Today, she remains remembered not only for the animated characters that introduced her to generations of viewers, but also as a child whose extraordinary potential was taken away far too soon. Her story continues to raise painful questions about domestic violence, warning signs and whether earlier intervention could have prevented the tragedy.
