Iran wants end to 'no war, no peace' situation, rejects concessions

Saturday, August 22, 2026 - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Tehran wants to break out of the current “no war, no peace” situation with the United States, but he is making clear that Iran does not intend to surrender its core positions.

Pezeshkian said Iran is seeking an understanding without compromising its principles, as diplomatic efforts remain stalled and tensions continue to threaten regional stability.

The message comes at a critical moment after a 60-day U.S.-Iran ceasefire framework expired without a broader agreement. Washington has maintained pressure through sanctions and demands over issues including the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran has rejected what it sees as attempts to force concessions.

Pezeshkian has argued that Iran should pursue an end to the conflict from a position of strength and dignity rather than accept terms imposed by its adversaries.

The stakes are rising quickly. The unresolved dispute is already affecting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, global energy markets and Iran’s struggling economy, while diplomatic channels remain active in an effort to restart negotiations.

Pezeshkian’s latest position suggests Tehran wants a way out of prolonged confrontation—but on terms it can present domestically as a strategic victory rather than a retreat.
