Sunday, August 16, 2026 -British actor Nick Joseph, known for appearances in Star Wars and EastEnders, has died suddenly at the age of 60, prompting an outpouring of tributes from friends, colleagues and fans.
Joseph was best known to Star Wars fans for playing Major Arhul Hextrophon, one of the medal bearers in the closing ceremony of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. His death was confirmed by close friend Rick Stanley, who said he was devastated after receiving the news from Joseph’s wife, Dee.
Joseph also built a varied television and film career, appearing in productions including Doctor Who, Blake’s 7 and the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. His final known acting appearance came in EastEnders, where he played Bert the milkman in 2019.
Beyond acting, Joseph remained closely connected to the Star Wars community, regularly attending fan conventions and helping organize events. Friends said he had been looking forward to next year’s 50th-anniversary celebrations of the franchise.

One fan said they had spoken with Joseph only two weeks before his death at a convention in Newcastle and that he appeared to be in good health and spirits.
