Sunday, September 13, 2026 - Sarah Jessica Parker is set to reunite with several of her former castmates for a long-awaited sequel to the 2005 holiday favorite The Family Stone.
The new film, titled The Families Stone, will bring Parker back alongside Rachel McAdams, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Craig T. Nelson and other original stars more than two decades after the first movie. The sequel has officially been greenlit, with production expected to take place in New York this fall.
The story will move forward 20 years after the death of family matriarch Sybil Stone, the character played by Diane Keaton. The new installment follows the Stone family as they gather for Christmas, only to discover that their father has unexpectedly invited a new romantic partner to meet them.
Keaton, who died in October 2025, will not return, making the reunion both highly anticipated and emotionally significant for the returning cast.
The project gives Parker and her former co-stars an opportunity to revisit characters that remain popular with audiences more than 20 years after the original film.
With much of the cast reportedly enthusiastic about returning and the original writer-director Thomas Bezucha back at the helm, expectations are already building. No official release date has been announced, but the return of the Stone family is shaping up to be one of the more anticipated nostalgic reunions in Hollywood.
