Sunday, September 27, 2026 - The White House excluded CNN from accompanying President Donald Trump aboard Air Force One for his September 26 trip to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he attended a college football game.
CNN had been scheduled to take part in the rotating U.S. network television pool that provides video coverage of presidential travel, but White House guidance instead included Real America’s Voice.
The decision came amid an ongoing dispute over White House media access. CNN, MS NOW and Politico had recently been barred from the White House grounds, but U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly temporarily ordered the administration to restore their access.
The ruling addressed White House press credentials but did not directly address access to Air Force One or television-pool assignments.
The latest move has intensified the dispute over how journalists are selected for limited-access presidential travel. CNN had been part of the established television pool rotation, while Real America’s Voice was not.
A written pool report on Saturday said there was no traditional TV pool for the Tennessee trip, although Real America’s Voice said it would make footage available to other news organizations.
