Sunday, October 4, 2026 - Iran has executed Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi, a man arrested during the January protests, according to the Iranian judiciary.
Authorities said Jamshidi fired at least three shots at police on January 8 in Shahrekord and was arrested two days later with a handgun. The judiciary also accused him of organizing “anti-security” activities online.
The execution comes as Iranian authorities continue imposing death sentences on people linked to the protests that began in late December 2025 and expanded nationwide in January.
Rights groups say dozens of protesters have already been executed in connection with the unrest, while others remain at risk of execution. Human Rights Watch has raised concerns over the fairness of proceedings in several protest-related cases.
The latest execution puts renewed attention on Iran’s treatment of protesters and the growing number of capital cases connected to the demonstrations.
With further executions reportedly possible, international scrutiny is intensifying around death-penalty cases and the legal process used against those detained during the unrest.
