Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - Jason Isaacs is marking 28 years of sobriety after opening up about the devastating period in his life when he believed he was going to die from his addiction to drugs and alcohol.
The Harry Potter and The White Lotus star recently shared a heartfelt message reflecting on the night in 1998 when he finally stopped using drugs and drinking. Isaacs, now 63, said he had been living without hope and wanted his life to end, but eventually reached a point where he surrendered and asked for help.
Isaacs explained that he was not sharing his experience to celebrate himself, but to reach people who may currently feel trapped by addiction. He said that before getting sober, he had no belief that his life could change and was convinced death was inevitable.
After taking the first step toward recovery, however, his outlook gradually transformed. Isaacs has previously spoken about developing an addiction to alcohol and drugs at a young age, describing years in which substance use shaped his relationships, decisions and ability to connect with the people around him.
Now, Isaacs is using his decades of sobriety to offer hope to others facing similar struggles. He credited asking for help and joining a Twelve Step programme with changing his life, while stressing that there are different paths to recovery.
His message comes as he continues to speak openly about addiction, turning what was once one of the darkest periods of his life into an opportunity to encourage others. After 28 years without drugs or alcohol, Isaacs says he is grateful simply to be present and engaged in life.
