JAVIER BARDEM felt 'nervous' about Skyfall

Monday, October 12, 2026 -Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem has revealed that he initially felt nervous about joining the James Bond franchise in Skyfall.

Speaking at a BFI London Film Festival event on October 11, 2026, the Spanish actor recalled questioning what he could bring to the iconic spy series before accepting the role of Raoul Silva, the film’s memorable villain. His latest comments are drawing renewed attention to one of the most talked-about performances in the 007 franchise.

Bardem explained that director Sam Mendes helped him shape the character, particularly by exploring Silva’s sexuality and his personal interest in Bond, played by Daniel Craig.

The actor proposed making the villain’s confrontation with 007 more personal, introducing a provocative dynamic that challenged Bond in an unfamiliar way. Mendes welcomed the idea and worked with the studio to bring it to the screen, resulting in a scene that remains memorable among fans of the film.

The revelation highlights how creative risks and collaboration can transform a film character into a lasting talking point. Bardem also recalled becoming so overwhelmed while filming alongside Craig and Judi Dench that he forgot his lines, suddenly realising he was sharing a scene with major figures from the Bond universe.

As audiences revisit Skyfall, his reflections offer a fresh look at the decisions and unexpected moments that helped make his performance stand out.
