Prince HARRY talks grief in online masterclass: 'I couldn't remember my mother's laugh'

Saturday, October 10, 2026 - Prince Harry has shared a deeply personal reflection on grief, revealing how the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, affected his ability to remember even the sound of her laughter.

During an online masterclass, the Duke of Sussex spoke about the emotional challenges of losing a parent at a young age and the lasting impact of that experience. His candid words have brought renewed attention to the reality of grief, showing how painful memories and fading details can remain part of a person’s journey long after a loss.

In the masterclass, titled Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss, Harry also reflected on how he tried to outrun his emotions during his 20s, including through his military service. He explained that he had spent years feeling emotionally numb because he believed sadness was necessary to prove his love for his mother.

The Duke said he eventually came to understand that experiencing joy does not mean betraying someone who has died. His collaboration with neuroscientist Dr. Mary-Frances O’Connor aims to explore how people can navigate loss and build resilience.
