SAM WOOD's lawyer slammed for his extremely poor choice of words in his defence during a court hearing for the star's domestic violence charges.

Saturday, October 10, 2026 - Sam Wood’s lawyer has faced fierce criticism after describing the fitness star’s damaged professional reputation as “taking a hell of a beating” during a court hearing over serious domestic violence charges.

The remark came as the former The Bachelor Australia star, 46, sought bail following allegations of assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting. The wording quickly attracted attention because of the disturbing allegations outlined in court, prompting public debate over the defence’s focus on Wood’s career while the case centres on alleged violence against his wife, Snezana Wood.

During the October 8 hearing at Maroochydore Magistrates Court in Queensland, defence lawyer Mathew Cuskelly argued that Wood should be released to access mental health support and attempt to rebuild his professional life. Prosecutors, however, opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations and concerns about potential risks.

The court heard allegations that Wood had grabbed his wife by the throat and restricted her breathing during a family argument in Noosa. Wood denies the charges, and the allegations have not been proven in court.

The controversy has added another layer of scrutiny to a case already drawing widespread attention across Australia. The court refused Wood bail, and he was remanded in custody until November 23, 2026, while his legal team indicated plans to pursue bail through the Queensland Supreme Court.

The backlash over his lawyer’s choice of words highlights how language used in high-profile domestic violence cases can shape public reaction, particularly when the alleged victim’s safety is at the centre of proceedings. As the case continues, the focus remains on the legal process, the evidence presented and the need to distinguish allegations from proven facts.
